The purpose of an exercise programme is to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Exercises may include:

  • Cardiovascular activities

  • Resistance training activities

  • Core and flexibility / mobility exercises

  • Motor skills training

You will be set a programme based upon your current activity / exercise levels and your stated goals. You will experience some feelings of exertion during each activity session and may become hot and uncomfortable at times. For example, if your plan includes certain types of cardiovascular exercise you can expect your breathing to become more rapid and your heart rate to increase. As your fitness improves, your goals may lead you to participate in more vigorous levels of activity but these should remain within your capabilities.

Potential risks:

All activities will be explained to you and demonstrated but you should feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The exercise programme is designed to place a gradually increasing workload on the cardiovascular and muscular systems and thereby improve their function. The reaction of the cardiovascular and muscular systems to such exercise cannot always be predicted accurately. Any exercise programme carries with it an element of risk. The sessions are designed to minimise risk yet, at the same time, provide an effective exercise / activity programme. Please inform the coach if there is any reason why you should not participate in an activity i.e. if you have an illness or an injury which might be aggravated by exercise.

For your safety, it is recommended that you wear suitable comfortable clothing, appropriate footwear, drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise, tie long hair back, have eaten 1-2 hours prior to your session (unless medically unable) and remove all jewellery during your session.

If you use any medication which you may need while exercising please bring it to every session and tell the coach where it is in case of an emergency.

Do not exercise if you are feeling unwell, your PAR-Q responses have changed recently, or you are taking any medication which may adversely affect you when you exercise. If, at any time, you feel unwell, undue pain or excessive discomfort stop the activity immediately and inform the coach of your symptoms. You are free to withdraw from any activity at any time you wish.

Potential benefits:

I understand that a programme of regular exercise has been shown to be beneficial.

Some of these benefits include:

  • A decreased risk of heart disease

  • A decrease in body fat

  • Improved blood pressure

  • Improvement in psychological function

  • Improvement in aerobic fitness

I agree to take part in the programme described to me by the coach. The nature, purpose, risks and benefits have been explained to me and I understand what is required of me and that I may withdraw at any time.

On occasion you may be asked if your session can be videoed or photographed for social media. You are not obligated to do so and the coach understands and respects this. You will be asked in advance, if you would rather the coach not do this then please inform them of your wishes.

EW Fitness is an inclusive business. If there is anything you feel the coach should know which will help make you more comfortable please let them know.
